Eliot school far outperforms city, state on MCAS - mostly makes up pandemic losses

The Eliot K8 Innovation school outperformed the State and City MCAS averages by a wide margin again in 2024. In fact, more students at the Eliot school meet or exceed expectations in Math and Reading than almost any other K8 school in the state.

Further, while scores at most districts in the state and schools in Boston lag far behind the benchmarks set in 2019, the Eliot school's tests show that students have largely made up for pandemic setbacks - or were never setback in the first place.

Eight years ago today, the Herald Published an article about neighborhood opposition to the proposed redevelopment of 60-70 Cross Street by Charter Realty. The president of the Neighborhood Council at the time explained that some residents didn't believe the design matched the historical nature of the neighborhood.

The last paragraph of the article gives a hint at the turmoil that came later - which ultimately saw the project cancelled .

Depasquale's new Cross St Plan: 2 stories; NEWNR supports 16-8

Frank Depasquale and his representatives and architect presented a new reduced-height, two-story plan for 60-70 Cross Street at tonight's Residents Association meeting.

The new plan eliminates the third floor and the plan for the second floor from the designs proposed at the Neighborhood Council meeting Monday.

The Association voted 16-8 in support of the updated plans.

At 9pm, the Neighborhood Council President called on board members to Support, Oppose, or Defer Discussion on Frank Depasquale's development at 60-70 Cross Street. The Council voted to defer.

100 new Bluebike stations coming - but potential North End sites have obstacles

Boston's bike department held an open house Monday night on their planned expansion of the Bluebikes program. The expansion aims to add 100 stations to the network, 47 of them by September of this year, throughout the North End, Beacon Hill, Chinatown, Downtown, South End, and West End.

Ultimately, the aim is to have a Bluebikes dock within a 10-minute walk of every Boston resident, and within a three-minute walk in high-density areas.

Abutters meeting for Depasquale's Cross Street development scheduled for Wednesday

Frank DePasquale, the North Ends most prolific caterer to suburban cosplayers, has purchased the three properties on Cross Street between Hanover and Salem. Abutters and other interested parties will get the chance to hear about his plans and give feedback on Wednesday, 24 July at 6pm via Zoom.
