You can thank the Residents Association for blocking late-night falafel in the North End

Whether or not your 'thanks' is ironic probably depends...

The owners of Mood restaurant (Fatima and Mahmood Ibrahim - 115 Salem St) bowed to pressure from the Residents Association at a Tuesday night meeting and changed the closing time of their proposed Mediterranean takeout/dine-in place from 3am to midnight Thursday-Saturday. At the licensing hearing Wednesday, Mr Ibrahims explained that they were no longer seeking the 3am closing time after meeting with the Residents Association the night before.

Also speaking at the licensing meeting was David Kubiak from the Residents Association:

the neighborhood is greatly in opposition to the original hours in the application

But that statement is technically incorrect: The Neighborhood Council (an elected representative body for the neighborhood with a City of Boston charter) voted unanimously to support the restaurant and its 3am closing time back in October 2023.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on which side you fall), this support doesn't appear to have been taken into consideration.

For now, you can enjoy falafel up until the witching hour Thursday - Saturday (once Mood actually opens). After that, you'll have to head to the only 24/7 spot - roughly 300 feet up Salem street.
