Early morning / late night Mediterranean joint proposed for Salem Street

Early morning / late night Mediterranean joint proposed for Salem Street

Hopeful owners of a new restaurant in the short-lived Shasa, erstwhile Rigoletto space at 115 Salem Street presented their plans to the Neighborhood Council last night.

Of note:

  1. No alcohol: The restaurant is not seeking a license to sell alcohol
  2. No delivery: The restaurant will serve dine in and take out, but no delivery (no GrubHub, Uber Eats, etc)
  3. 3am close: The restaurant's hours are not yet set, but the owners are looking to serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night customers - 8am to "2 or 3am"

The owners described the menu as having "Hummus, a lot of dips, and kebabs". It will be Mediterranean with a focus on Egyptian cuisine. This will make two restaurants, right next door to each other on Salem street, serving non-Italian food without a liquor license (the other being Pink Carrot). The proposed name for the restaurant is Mood.

Of course, Pink Carrot and Mood aren't the only restaurants serving non-Italian food without a liquor license. Pauli's, Mangia Mangia, and Sausday come to mind.

The Neighborhood Council unanimously supported the proposal - even though the owners are not seeking zoning relief or a liquor license and therefore don't need the support of the Council.

The owners have a scheduled hearing with the licensing board on November 9th and hope to open mid-November / early-December.
