January 2023 NEWNC Meeting - Boba tea coming to Hanover Street and outdoor dining meeting Thursday night
NEWNC held its January meeting on Monday night. There was a single voting item on the agenda. The new owner of China House restaurant at 331 Hanover Street, Kakada Ly, wants to remove proviso on the permit which allowed restaurant use for prior operator only and to allow the new owner, Ly, to operate under the same permit. The council unanimously supported the proposal.
Mr. Ly explained that the restaurant would largely keep the same menu, serving traditional Chinese dishes. It would also add a drink menu including "fruit flavored tea with tapioca" aka bubble/boba tea. The addition of tea is reflected in the new name of the establishment: "Sweet Boba".
There was a community chat at the end of during which the president, Jody Faller, expressed concern over the 2023 outdoor dining season. Specifically that there is an impact from traffic diversions.
The Residents Association will be hosting a meeting on outdoor dining this Thursday, January 12th from 6 to 8pm at the Nazzaro center.
