Two alarm fire at 288 Hanover Street; third fire on this block in five years
Boston Fire reported smoke showing from the roof at approximately 5:45pm Wednesday evening which turned out to be a two alarm fire in the building.
No injuries were reported but eight residents were displaced.
This is the third fire to break out on this block of Hanover Street in the last five years.
A 2017 fire at 282 Hanover Street, caused by "careless use of smoking materials" claimed the lives of two people the day before Thanksgiving. Just over a year later, a fire broke out in the kitchen of Trattoria Il Panino on the first floor of the same building which caused an estimated $150,000 in damages. There were no injuries or displacements in the second fire because the building - outside of the first floor restaurant - was still vacant and under renovation from the first fire.
There was no shortage of reporters on the scene.
Some Boston Barber Co employess and friends made the best of a Parmenter Street which was temporarily closed to vehicles.
It's worth noting that with Cafe Zone in full effect, Hanover Street was configured differently from the previous two fires. It would be interesting to hear if that affected BFD response time one way or the other.
