North End Community Center construction update meeting
BCYF is holding a meeting Monday March 30th at 6pm a the Nazzaro to discuss the progress of the new community center.
Back in December, the city held a "ground breaking" ceremony at the new site next to Puopolo Field which involved trucking a load of dirt into the parking lot so it could be formally shoveled, but no other apparent progress had been made sense.
The project involves replacing the Mirabella pool which means that it will be closed for the duration of the project. The original plan was for the pool to reopen in the summer of 2028, but this seems doubtful as the site has remained dormant since.
There were 34 months between the pools 2025 season and when it scheduled to reopen in 2028. We've now squandered seven of those - more than a fifth of the total time. Needless to say, residents are skeptical that the pool will reopen at all in 2028 and many are asking if, at this point, construction should be postponed until after the 2026 season.
We'll see what updates we get Monday the 30th.
